How does Data architecture relate to Enterprise Architecture?
Clearing some confusion around the two.
Data Architecture operates in context of other architecture domains, including business, application and technical architecture. The diagram below depicts the interdependency and relationship between these.
The best way to think of enterprise architecture framework is like an “architecture of architecture”. A common enterprise architecture framework is the Zachman framework. (https://www.zachman.com/about-the-zachman-framework).
Enterprise data architecture is build on data models, data definitions, data specifications, data flows and APIS. The business architecture will dictate how data is modeled. Whereas, enterprise business architecture establishes business processes and capabilities as well as strategic initiative to grow and sustain a business.
Data architecture design taking cues from the enterprise architecture then defines and outlines collection, storage, integration, movement and distribution of data.
